If your little one is learning how to write numbers, these cute cat-themed tracing numbers worksheets are a great way to practice. Each page includes a single number from 1 to 10, handwriting practice, and a simple count and color activity.

Each activity helps to build fine-motor skills in a fun way, while the repetition helps to build your child’s numeracy skills.

Suitable for preschool, kindergarten, homeschooling or a morning activity, they are ready to print and go. Kids will enjoy the adorable cat while counting how many fish they get to enjoy for their dinner.

Special Number 4 Note: You will notice that the number 4 on these tracing numbers worksheets uses the open, handwritten style rather than the computer-style triangle 4. This is intentional, as it matches the way most children naturally learn to write the number and is easier for early writers to master.

Other Ways to Practise Number Tracing

There are lots of ways to practise number tracing without using worksheets. I used to love using these methods when my girls were little. Plus, when they finished practising their numbers (or letters), they could continue enjoying the activity.

If your child enjoys hands-on activities, here are a few simple ways to practise number formation without worksheets:

  • Trace numbers in sand or salt trays Great for sensory learning and fine-motor control.
  • Use playdough to shape the numbers Helps children understand the curves and straight lines.
  • Write numbers in shaving foam or yoghurt on a tray Messy, fun, and perfect for younger learners.
  • Use a paintbrush and water on a chalkboard or pavement No mess, and kids love watching the numbers “disappear”.
  • Finger trace numbers on textured surfaces Carpet, felt, foam mats, or sandpaper letters work well.
  • Use dot stickers to form each number Great for hand-eye coordination and number recognition.
  • Build numbers with small manipulatives Buttons, pom-poms, pasta shapes, or Lego.
